Simon Van Nimwegen

Simon van Nimwegen started his career in retail at the age of 26 while he was a university student. He sold memberships for the Oaks Wine Club with a colleague, Eben Espach. After completing his articles he moved up to Johannesburg to work with Eben and within a year Simon was partnering with one of Eben’s holding companies, PEG Retail Holdings’ petrol sites, the BP M1 Oasis on the M2 North in Johannesburg. A couple of years later together they expanded and bought another larger petrol site, the Engen One-Stop on the N1 outbound and inbound in Grasmere , Johannesburg.

Later he married Tracey Wright and soon after they had a baby. As both Simon and Tracey were originally from Cape Town they decided to relocate. In 2004 they made the move and purchased the Hout Bay Superspar. It has since grown from strength to strength, allowing Simon to purchase several other stores in the Spar franchise.

Simon enjoys helping his staff to improve themselves and focuses on staff upliftment, because of this and his management style his stores enjoy a high staff retention rate. He is well known in the Hout Bay Community for his philanthropic nature and work in the community. Some of the causes Hout Bay Superspar support are the Nippers and the Community Crime Prevention.

In his personal capacity Simon is a dedicated husband and father with a passion for cycling around our beautiful city.
